RBST Devon

The Annual General Meeting of the RBST Devon Support group Monday Jan 23rd 2006

This year we were again at the Cowick Barton Inn in Exeter. Before the meeting most people met in the bar and had drinks and food and a good old chat. Peter and Liffy ran a good AGM, with all the committee being voted back in en-masse. Hillary is doing the newsletter for now, but we do need a volunteer to take it over - please contact any of the committee (you will get loads of help and support) Click here for the agenda

The speaker this year was David Ramsden from the Barn Owl Trust

David joined us for the AGM and gave a fascinating presentation on the way barn owls have spread around the South West, what environment they need to prosper, and how we could all help Part of this was having older grass that folds over into a 'thatch' in which voles and other small mammals can thrive and feed the owls. Barn owls are themselves rare, there being only a few thousand breeding pairs in this country

“The presentation was entitled “Restoring the Balance” . David Ramsden is the Trust’s Senior Conservation Officer. David has considerable experience in talking to a wide range of audiences and is very enthusiastic, entertaining and informative. Subjects covered included an introduction to the Barn Owl, its decline, the effects of changing farming practices, conservation measures and the work of the Barn Owl Trust. David illustrated the close links between the Barn Owl and people, and the ways in which our everyday activities affect the environment.
