Kingsbridge Show

3rd Sept 2005

A misty warm day gave way to a lovely day - not too hot. There was a very good crowd watching all the events and browsing the stands - more than in previous years.

We had our usual spot in a big marquee tent just opposite the NFU stand. During the day we always had between 2 and 6 RBST members manning the stand. Liffy and Mark had brought two Wensleydale and two Manx sheep, Barbara and I had taken three Hebs and two Shetlands and Peter had taken an entire farmyard collection of poultry. Other exhibitors in the tent had donkeys, more sheep, rabbits and a multitude of smaller animals for children to get to know.

We spent a lot of time leaning on the pens, or even in the pens, chatting to people about rare breeds and what they could do to help. Several families expressed an interest in having a few - sheep or chickens mainly, as most people do not have much land. My guess is that 2 or 3 couples will go ahead with some sheep.

The stall made bit of money by selling HQ goods and members items (from which the RBST gets 10%)
